It was an overturned goal that proved the difference in the Maple Leafs’ embarrassing 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes at the Scotiabank Arena on Monday.
Maple LeafsBut it was a combination of an ineffective power play and an inability to solve Arizona’s clogging of their net area that had the Leafs chasing the game all night.
“It’s tough … Obviously, just trying to keep the puck in,” Rielly said of the play at the Arizona blue line. “It’s a play that happens all the time and, unfortunately, it didn’t go our way.”That was frustrating enough for the Leafs, but they had no business being in a close game with an Arizona team that, in popular opinion, are candidates to tank their season to get a shot at the first pick in next summer’s NHL draft.
“Nothing to that,” Marner said. “Obviously, you could tell the fans were getting frustrated through the night. For us, we can’t get frustrated … we have to stick to our process, make sure we bear down. For me, it was a big goal, a tying goal, and that’s all it was.”Marner was concerned for defenceman Jake Muzzin, who left the game after two periods with a neck injury.
