Fans at Thursday night’s home opener were surprised when Dwayne Johnson, the former wrestler turned actor universally known as The Rock, burst through the tunnel wearing a Leafs sweater, ready to hype up the crowd during a stoppage in play. “What’s up Toronto? We’re gonna do this right. Here we go,” Johnson said before starting a “Let’s go Leafs” chant. Straying away from the regular “Go Leafs Go” chant was a bold move, but he pulled it off as the sold-out crowd followed his lead.
Maybe The Rock is the one to change the team’s goal song too, as fans have been calling for a change from “You Make My Dreams” by Hall and Oates, which the team has used since 2018.
