Toronto city hall promised much better snow-clearing — so where is it? With only two storms this winter, the city’s snow removal has left residents frustrated and angry. Opinion by GraphicMatt
from residents who are frustrated with Toronto’s snow-clearing efforts of late, especially on sidewalks and around transit stops. A lot of the messages are from seniors or those living with disabilities, or both. After snowstorms, they feel trapped in their homes.
Toronto city hall knew it had to make serious improvements to snow-clearing services heading into this winter. Based, we now know that 2022 saw the highest number of complaints and service requests related to snow clearing since Toronto established its 311 service in 2009.
Will 2023’s numbers end up better? We’re on track to see less snow, so that could help the totals, but early data and anecdotal evidence suggest the quality of service is still seriously lacking. In the five days following the Feb. 23 storm, the city logged a total of 2,665 service requests to 311 related to snow and ice clearing.
