The Municipality of Pictou County took some time at a recent meeting to honour a local dog that saved it's honours during a house fire in December. Liam Green and Renee Kilburn-Green, Athena’s owners, said they were surprised but grateful the county wanted to honour their dog. “At first, I thought maybe the cats had knocked the Christmas tree down. I heard the panic in his voice,” she said.As Green rushed to fill a mop bucket with water from the kitchen sink in a futile effort to fight the fire, Kilburn-Green called 911.
While firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, between fire, smoke and water damage, the house is considered beyond repair.
