Bryce Chapman, centre with trainers Kyle Sutherland, left, and Jocelyn Sutherland.With just three years of experience in judo, Bryce Chapman is a relative rookie in the martial art.Chapman first started training at the Kanokai Judo Club in Pictou County when he was 11.He has also competed in hockey, baseball and badminton, but said he likes the physicality of judo.
“Three years is a really short judo career to accomplish what he has. He’s just a natural competitor and right away he was medalling at tournaments,” Sutherland said. “This past November, Bryce got silver at the Quebec Open which is, in my opinion, the biggest tournament in the country.” Bryce Chapman trains at the Kanokai Judo Club in Pictou County. He will represent Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Games. - Adam Macinnis‘It feels great,” Chapman, now 14, said of being able to represent the province.
Sutherland believes Chapman will do well. From his own experience as a Canada Games athlete in 2015, he encourages him to enjoy it.
