The Ottawa Senators will turn to newcomer Magnus Hellberg Monday night.
The club was forced to recall Kevin Mandolese from its AHL affiliate in Belleville Monday after the morning skate and it appears the 31-year-old Hellberg will make his first appearance in the Ottawa net against the Dallas Stars at the Canadian Tire Centre.Sign up to receive daily headline news from Ottawa Citizen, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
The club is already without injured goaltender Cam Talbot and top centre Josh Norris is sidelined at least two weeks with a shoulder injury he suffered in Saturday’s 6-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes at home.Article contentAt 6-foot-6, Hellberg casts a big shadow, but there’s more to his game than that. He finished with 13-20-4 record with Sochi in the Kontinental Hockey League last season, but he wasn’t on a very good team because he had a .917- save percentage and 2.42 goals-against average.
He signed a one year deal worth $750,000 with the Kraken in the off-season because he wanted to give his career in the NHL another shot. He was drafted by Nashville when Pekka Rinne was there and was in New York when the Rangers had Henrik Lundqvist.
