A wildfire\u002Dmonitoring satellite built and designed by University of Alberta students will soon be orbiting the globe.

“We’re hoping to collect data about these wildfires that will then be passed off totally free and open source and available on our website to researchers to use to investigate these wildfires and their types and their behaviour and the effect that they have on the surrounding vegetation,” Ganley said.
Joanne Cai, systems team lead with AlbertaSat, has been working on the satellite since September 2020.
