ICYMI: Fundraiser launched for Alberta paramedic who responded to daughter's fatal car crash
Jayme Erickson said she and her partner were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash outside Airdrie on Nov. 15 around 4:30 p.m. They arrived to find two patients with injuries, one of them a teenage girl gravely injured and trapped in the car. Erickson said she did her best to attend to the victim — who turned out to be her daughter — while firefighters extricated her from the wreckage.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary SUN, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.
The officers took Erickson to the hospital to see her daughter. There, she said medical staff told her that her daughter’s injuries were “not compatible with life.” Montana died in hospital on Nov. 18, three days after the crash. Erickson said Montana’s life was cut far too short and she can’t help but be angry at the short amount of time they were given together.
A friend of the family, Lindsay Sandalack, has organized an online fundraiser to support the family. Within just a few hours of it being posted on Monday afternoon, the fundraiser had raised more than $11,000.
