Police are asking people to stay away from the Rotary Drive area and to not pick up hitchhikers.

A second emergency alert around 9:50 p.m. advised of the suspect's arrest and stated there was no longer any threat to public safety.No names have been released, but the Cape Breton Regional Police issued a second emergency alert Saturday night to say the force's Emergency Response Team"has arrested the suspect" in an incident which occurred on Rotary Drive in the late afternoon.A male victim is in hospital after being shot. It it believed the weapon was a long gun.
In an earlier release, police said the suspect was described as a white male with dark hair. He is approximated five-foot-eight with tattoos on his forearms, a thin build, around 140 pounds, and was wearing a burgundy sweater or jacket.Police do not say if the suspect is believed to still be armed or not. The emergency alert also does not provide this information.
Several areas are being searched and an emergency alert was sent.
