As the letter to truckers explained, the children who go to the child care centre next door to Sullivan’s Fueling Station love watching the trucks and whenever one comes, they climb dirt hills to get a good view of the trucks and pump their arms to ask the drivers to blow their horns. This has created learning opportunities as teachers talk with the kids about the different type of trucks and what they haul.
She said the post has garnered international attention and she was even contacted by a publication in New Zealand interested in the story.The Nova Scotia Trucking Safety Association gave the kids some foam tractor trailers and water bottles.“Our transportation sector never stopped the last three years through COVID,” she said. “When everything was closed, these drivers were still delivering.”A variety of trucks took part in the touch-a-truck event for pre-schoolers.
