The proud Maritimer, who hails from Pictou County, N.S., is also an artist, who leads a fulfilling career as an award-winning musician. These days, her passion for music is also being manifested by humming Raffi songs to keep Hugh entertained while he’s in his playpen and she’s multi-tasking. Condon was also inspired to create a beer called ‘Betty’s Ale’ to honour her mother’s legacy for Copper Bottom Brewing’s ‘Giveback initiative.’ A philanthropic undertaking, which seeks to shore up good causes, it was the third of its kind. One dollar from every can or pint of ‘Betty’s Ale’ sold was used to support new and established women entrepreneurs in collaboration with the PEIBWA.
"Ideally, I’d like to get to a place where it’s just my life-life balance; where my work is integrated into my life because it’s something I love; I’m meant to do and it gives me energy.” Given the dynamics at play, Condon has found it helpful to allocate some time with Spears so they can spend time together as a couple.
"Just knowing I have an afternoon or a few hours to myself is key to finding balance. I’ll usually come back reenergized, inspired and a better mom for Hugh. I have a feeling there will be a few Hugh-inspired songs coming down through the wires.” Drawing inspiration largely from the Canadian wilderness, his latest album, ‘The Land, The Sea, The People,’ was released in March 2022. Paying homage to the remote places he’s visited and the people he’s met along the way, listeners are taken on an intriguing odyssey into the most serene corners of Canada and are brought closer to the indelible impressions he’s been left with.
“One of the fellows I featured is Eldon Munroe, from Little Dover, N.S. He went around his community with a tape recorder to capture people’s stories for a book titled, ‘The Times, Tides & Tears of Little Dover. A Story of Survival’," Ruzzo explains.
