When it comes to fantasy, there’s simply nothing bigger than J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved classic The Lord of the Rings. And, a caveat here, I’m a big Tolkien fan folks. Like, big. And it’s difficult to put my fan hat away and look at this from a purely critical lens. This world and its characters and lore and languages mean a lot to me. But I’ll do my best.It’s easy to see the attention to detail, care and, frankly, the budget that is on display here.
There are issues with The Rings of Power, with at least five active storylines, all vying for your attention in the first few episodes, it can be dense to a fault. Though Galadriel seems home to the A storyline, it does shove as many characters and arcs as possible in each episode, which can almost feel like it's slowing the pace down even further.
She wasn’t wrong. It is one of the boldest, most proudly LGBTQ shows I’ve seen in some time and it’s all the stronger for it.Set in 1943, the Rockford Peaches team is formed as part of an all-girls baseball league to entertain the American masses while a large portion of the men are being enlisted to fight in the war.
The performances are wonderfully nuanced and charming as the large ensemble finds its footing, especially after a few episodes. The film sees Thor dealing with an existential crisis as he attempts to find internal peace with all of the upheaval in his life. But, Gorr the God Butcher plans to get some heavenly revenge by wiping out deities from across the galaxy.
