Another game where the Canucks score in bunches and the defence lets them down
It was a total failure of defensive hockey. It was defending by a bad beer league team. And, of course, at this point they’d best continue to be bad, since the worse they are, the better the draft lottery chances they have. The team, of course, has its own plans. They can score goals in bunches. This has been clear all season.
Kuzmenko’s game-tying goal was his second of the contest, as he also opened the Canucks’ scoring in the second period, tallying a goal on a breakaway. Sheldon Dries banged in a loose puck behind Nashville goalie Juuse Saros for the team’s second goal.Article contentNashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros makes a save on a shot by Vancouver Canucks center Dakota Joshua during the second period at Bridgestone Arena.
It’s their depth players who have let them down. The guys who populate the third and fourth lines have simply not done enough defensively to justify their lack of offence. They do have Quinn Hughes, who is a star, and Ethan Bear, who is a fine depth blueliner, but Tyler Myers is a shell of his former self and the other three defencemen on the night, Stillman, Kyle Burroughs and Christian Wolanin are seventh defencemen at best, not players to be leaned on to play big minutes.
Vancouver Canucks centre J.T. Miller moves the puck in front of Nashville Predators center Matt Duchene during the first period of an NHL hockey game Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, in Nashville, Tenn. The Predators opened the scoring on a sequence that Canucks coach Rick Tocchet challenged, likely having been urged to do so by video coach Dylan Crawford and Crawford’s assistant Greg Houde.
