Subscriber exclusive: Aidan McDonough leads his team to a big trophy win, Jack Rathbone is officially back and Nils Hoglander gets a whole lot grittier.
told Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre last week“We all know that coaches get frustrated and managers get frustrated and your career can be over at age 22. That’s not the player’s fault; it’s the club that put them in a position to fail. There’s very few players that have stepped right into the National Hockey League and been ready to play. That’s the conversation I had with Nils Hoglander. I like him as a player. He’s going to be a good player.
With the NHL trade deadline on March 3, this could go a few ways for Hoglander. He is in the final year of a three-year contract and is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. New Vancouver head coach Rick Tocchet expects his skilled players to know how to play without the puck , so whether Hoglander fits into the mold remains to be seen.
Hoglander has eight goals, 11 assists and a plus-7 rating in 25 AHL games this season. He had nine points and a minus-4 rating in 25 games in Vancouver earlier this season.Abbotsford forward Danila Klimovich snapped a personal six-game goalless streak on Saturday, firing home a pass by linemate Arsh Bains late in the third period against the Barracuda to bring his team to within a goal.
