Paul Schneidereit's column: 'How long will the head of the RCMP and federal Liberal government persist in a lie when it is clear they’re lying? I guess we’re about to find out.'
RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki testifies at the Mass Casualty Commission inquiry into the mass murders in rural Nova Scotia on April 18-19, 2020, in Halifax on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022.
The Mounties long said they couldn’t find a recording of the conversation. Then, late last month, it turned out at least a partial recording of the call did exist. Why we only recently learned about this, after the Mass Casualty Commission’s hearings are concluded, is another question, but let’s stay focused.
The main reason for the call had been Lucki’s anger that what she’d told the minister would happen, did not happen. The “minister” she refers to would have been then public safety minister Blair. She said that right after the mass shooting, RCMP headquarters repeatedly offered to send communications people to Nova Scotia to help, only to be told things were well in hand.
