Education Minister Stephen Lecce is framing the payments as help for tutoring supports for students to “catch up” from the pandemic. “It could not be clearer that we must keep students in class without disruption, with a focus on catching up on the fundamentals – reading, writing and math – after two years of pandemic-related learning disruptions,” said Lecce.
However, the announcement from the province on Thursday did not contain any references to parents having to prove how the money would be used.The new “catch up” payments will total $365-million.
