We’ve known for quite some time that Mississauga, which is home to nearly 800,000 residents, with the second-largest economy in the province, has outgrown the need to be part of a two-tier government. Opinion by BonnieCrombie
The unfortunate reality is that not all relationships are built to last. Sometimes there comes a point, when no matter how hard you try, it’s simply not working. One partner consistently feels like they are giving more than they are getting in return. It’s best to part ways, because you know you will better off on your own.
We’ve known for quite some time that Mississauga, which is home to nearly 800,000 residents , with the second-largest economy in the province, has outgrown the need to be part of a two-tier government. We’re ready and capable of standing on our two feet and making decisions without having to ask for permission from other cities. Brampton should be able to do the same.
We also know it will reduce unnecessary duplication and layers of approvals that are slowing us down from building more housing — a key provincial priority. It’s no secret that the province has given Ontario’s 29 fastest growing urban municipalities, which includes Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon, ambitious housing targets to meet in the next 10 years; three cities in very different stages of growth with unique needs and distinct challenges when it comes to building more housing.
