My name is Gananatha Subrahmanyam. I am running for the position of OCDSB Trustee in Zone 1. An educator, university professor, researcher and academic coach, I have been working in the private and public sector for more than 25 years. I work as a part-time professor, provide training to government employees, and coach public school students.
Many residents have been contacting me with concerns about students’ math skills, literacy levels and other fundamental competencies. I share their concerns. The Ministry of Education recently established new science and technology curriculum for elementary schools; more new and inspiring curricula and teaching methods need to be developed and implemented, particularly to get students reading at and above the standards that many are now failing to meet.
