Both players were among the last cuts during training camp, but they’ll both get their first crack at regular-season action for Thursday’s game.
Nick Robertson and Victor Mete plan to have family around at the Scotiabank Arena when they play their first regular season games withMete’s from Woodbridge, so buying tickets for the clan might get a bit pricey. Robertson doesn’t have such a worry. His family is his brother, Jason, and he’ll be playing for the Dallas Stars.
It’s fair to say Robertson has somewhat of a chip on his shoulder. Robertson had all but made the team out of training camp — emphasis on the “but” — by leading the team in scoring and doing everything that was required. “It was hard to grasp, obviously, but hopefully it’s just water under the bridge now and I’ve got to do what I can,” said Robertson. “I have to be focused on the game. I’ve got to be ready for this opportunity. Ever since being sent down, I always told myself to be ready. So tonight is the time to show it and just carry on with it.”
“I expect him to just go back and play the way that he was. That was my message to him,” Keefe said of Robertson. “He’s been through some things here in the last 10 days or so. But he was playing really well. He should be confident and just come in and take advantage of his opportunity.”
