China\u0027s President Xi Jinping took issue with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over what he saw as an inappropriate leak of a private chat.
Trudeau caught Xi’s ire for letting journalists know what the pair had discussed Tuesday during an informal chat at the global leaders’ summit in Indonesia. With reports of China meddling in Canada’s 2019 federal election, Trudeau has been quizzed about what, if anything, he would do about the electoral interference.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary SUN, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.
“Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper, that’s not appropriate,” Xi said to Trudeau through an interpreter. “That’s not how, the way the conversation was conducted.” “In Canada, we believe in free and open and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have. We will continue to look to work constructively together, but there will be things we will disagree on,” Trudeau said.
Trudeau stood up for himself, and Canada, verbally, which I have to applaud, but he needs to learn to stand tall on the international stage — body language matters. The prime minister is a tall if slim man, he’s not someone to be dismissed based on his physical stature — and we’ve all seen him box.
