Re: Federal “transition” plan makes battle with Alberta almost certain, Opinion, Jan. 4
As westerners, we should all be on alert, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau follows the playbook created by his father.
This government has provided billions for EV cars, and mining and making batteries. Maybe a few billion will be put in Canadians’ pockets who cannot afford the “transition” to EV cars.Article content I will stand with Alberta, Saskatchewan and, if need be, the West, to support every effort to stop the madness by Ottawa. The hypocrisy of the Trudeau government’s proposed “just transition” legislation is that it’s a shell game. While Trudeau demonizes fossil fuels, he has no problems collecting billions in royalties and taxes. In fact, an estimated 13 per cent of Canada’s GDP will be generated by oil and gas this year, with a fair chunk subsidizing Ontario’s EV industry.
It’s no different for the prime minister. His grandfather, Charles-Emile Trudeau, made the family fortune by building a small empire of gas stations which he eventually sold in 1934 for $1 million. So the real question should be if Alberta is going to be forced out of oil and gas, when will Trudeau and his minions begin their “just transition” and stop living high on the hog thanks to oil and gas revenues? This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.
Perhaps, but that’s stretching credulity a bit, given that the original was written in French by Adolphe-Basile Routhier, the music composed by Calixa Laval, and the work first performed on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, 1880.
