Cape Breton Post File - Cape Breton PostGLACE BAY, N.S. — Week-long power outages caused by post-tropical storm Fiona have exasperated an existing need for milk and the supplies at the Glace Bay Food Bank.

The milk initiative started 10 years ago when McNeil got wind of kids in local communities forced to put water on cereal because their homes lacked milk. He told the food bank co-ordinator at the time that one child forced to do that was too many and he’d come up with an initiative to help. A woman from China has already sent $25, which she does every year. A large milk and potato donation has already been confirmed from Prince Edward Island, which has become a tradition over the past three campaigns.

Not only did people lose food to spoilage during power outages, but they also had to use other funds to replace that food once the power returned.
