CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Volleyball players Ella Hickey and Cameron Calhoun are the Holland Hurricanes athletes of the week for the week ending Jan.

Hickey, a second-year setter from Charlottetown, led the ‘Canes to back-to-back wins over the weekend at the McMillan Centre in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association regular season play.

On Jan. 21, she had 24 assists, four kills, four digs and two service aces in a straight-sets win over the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons, before contributing 21 assists, three digs, two services aces and a kill in a straight-sets victory over the Mount Allison University Mounties on Jan. 22.The Hurricanes are 7-3 and in fourth in the ACAA. They played Wednesday in Fredericton against the St. Thomas University Tommies . Upcoming road games are Jan.

Calhoun, who is from Timmins, Ont., recorded a combined 24 kills, four digs, three service aces and a block in ACAA action over the weekend as the ‘Canes split a pair of games with the USTA Dragons in the battle for second in the conference. The ‘Canes continue to battle with the STU Tommies and USTA Dragons for first-place as the playoffs approach. The Tommies and Dragons lead the standings with 12 points while the Hurricanes are third with 10 points at 5-4.

The ‘Canes began a string of five-straight road games starting on Jan. 25 in Fredericton versus the Tommies at 7 p.m. They’ll continue their road trip in Saint John on Jan. 28-29, followed by back-to-back matches versus the Tommies on Feb. 4-5. They’ll conclude their regular season at home on Feb. 11 at the McMillan Centre versus the USTA Dragons at 5 p.m.
