Giuseppe Ursino, 69, of Bradford, was sentenced to 11 years and six months in custody in February 2019.
A GTA grandfather and convicted mob boss has been denied parole after showing no remorse for his role in what prosecutors call a historic organized crime case.
The star Crown witness against Ursino was police agent Carmine Guido, a former GTA underworld figure who testified that Ursino was a leading local ’Ndrangheta boss who sat on the group’s “Camera Di Controllo,” or board of control. Most of those conversations place in a York Region coffee shop. In one of them, Bruce Springsteen’s “Hungry Heart” played in the background as Ursino warned Guido that a mobster referred to as “The Chosen One” had almost run out of patience with Guido, who said he owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to mobsters in gambling debts.
“You told him to make the victims know it was serious and if they did not get the message, the Agent was to find the wife and children of one of the victims,” the newly-released parole decision continues. The decision notes that Ursino has no other criminal record, although he did have three sets of charges for possession of property obtained by crime withdrawn.Ursino ran a business distributing food products to restaurants and banquet halls“You denied lacking insight and expressed the opinion that you do not have to ‘better yourself,’” the board states.
