Canucks Q&A: Marc Crawford crows about passion, pursuing bench-boss job in Europe
Q: What would you do if a position doesn’t come to fruition? Is there something else in life you want to pursue but haven’t had the time?I’ve had a lot of time to think, but the practical side of coaching is that it’s physically demanding. You have to have the juice to be able to do that and I still have lots of juice. I’m very confident and I’ve been in hockey since I was 16 and coaching since 1987-88.
Q: You’ve won a Jack Adams Trophy and a Stanley Cup, but it hasn’t been all sunshine. How did physical abuse allegations against you by former players shape you?For me, it was about wanting to make a change in my life. That’s where it ultimately has to come from and there has to be that desire. I did a lot of good things, too, and the pushing of people to be better was good in some circumstances. We all can do things better and I needed to find a better way.
Q: You worked the bench with former Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton. What do the Canucks have in their new AHL boss?A very detail-oriented guy and a real quality person. To play on those great world junior teams , he had to be competitive and improve. My daughter is a sports psychologist and said: “Never trust anybody who hasn’t had their heart broken.” And Jeremy has had his broken. He’ll strive to be better and I love his work ethic.

Mattias . Such a good player and the eye injury he got was significant and it really probably took a couple of years off his career. But I just remember his great battles with Jarome that were simply epic.
