The committee overseeing the selection process received bids from five firms and used a scoring system to evaluate each. Architectural 49 was both the highest-scoring bid and the one with the lowest cost, at $437,765. In keeping with Summerside’s focus on green infrastructure, there is wording in the tender to allow for the inclusion of renewable energy in the overall design of the new building, though details are scant at this point.
For many years, new firefighting infrastructure did not qualify for funding from the most common federal streams. That started to change in 2021 and there are now greater options for the city to help pay for this particular facility.
