Ottawa's Chapel Hill South park and ride opened in October 2019. Three years later, residents in nearby communities call it a 'white elephant' and a waste of their tax dollars.
Rylee Batista, president of the Chapel Hill South Community Association, says residents are frustrated with an empty park and ride that was built in their neighbourhood. Since it opened in October 2019, she says it's mostly used for recreation.
The lot has 263 free parking spaces and was slated to expand to 427, according to OC Transpo's website. Posts on social media about the park and ride show cheeky comments dating back two years using terms like 'massive incompetence' and 'huge fail' to describe the city's decision to build it. This is a snapshot of a few comments on OC Transpo's Facebook page.Batista, president of the Chapel Hill South Community Association, said the lot has been mainly used as an "$8 million cement playground" during in the pandemic.
A car parked at Chapel Hill South park and ride in Orléans in September. This car was one of three parked at the lot at the time. "We're not well serviced," she said. "But where's the next step? Where's Plan B? There doesn't seem to be [one]."
