The effort to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 has renewed interest in nuclear power, and the war in the Ukraine has led to countries like Germany to reopen previously closed nuclear plants. California has also reversed its decision to close its Diablo Canyon nuclear facility. Interestingly, SMRs have been safely used for decades to power nuclear subs and aircraft carriers. The advantage of SMRs is that they can be manufactured off site, transported to the desired location, assembled on site and used in both grid and non-grid applications.

Their chief nuclear officer, Brett Plummer, recently stated on our Insights Podcast that SMRs have been around for decades, with a proven record of safety — and the new generation of SMRs are being designed to an even higher level of safety .
