The start of the murder trial of Calgarian Michael Elendu is underway in Calgary. Elendu is charged in the fatal stabbing of his roommate.

Elendu, 21, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Dec. 16, 2020 incident in the Pantella Court N.W. home where Wright, 20, lived with other roommates and the accused had been staying for several weeks. At the beginning of the trial he entered a plea to manslaughter through defence lawyer Derek Jugnauth, but the Crown is proceeding with the murder allegation.
