THUNDER BAY — The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority has begun a major cleanup of a portion of the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway.
On Monday, crews began the two-month-long job of removing sediment from the floodway's diversion channel.Silt accumulated in the channel due to the diversion of water that occurred for 16 consecutive days this spring. The sediment has to removed to ensure the floodway remains able to provide flood protection to the lower Neebing River and Intercity area up to the level of a regional storm, which is defined as an event in which 193 millimetres of rain falls in 12 hours.Members of the public are asked to respect posted construction signs and stay clear of work areas and equipment.
