Fahmee Bakery, once known for supplying restaurants and TTC subway stations like Bathurst and Warden with its Jamaican patties, closed its last takeout location on Lansdowne Avenue over the weekend.

“It’s a combination of the same things everyone else is going through. Trouble finding staff, the price of ingredients,” said Fahmee Bakery owner Faiz Abdella, 25, about the closure. “After a long COVID, it’s hard for businesses with inflation, the increase of interest rates, employment shortages.” With the help of a loan from his father, Abdella took over operations of Fahmee five years ago from the retiring Lue family, who had previously owned the decades-old business. As the new boss, Abdella decided to make the patties halal to better reflect the city’s diverse population. He also opened two additional locations at 1971 Weston Rd. and 222 Lansdowne Ave., the latter of which opened more than three years ago.before it became mainstream,” he said.

Last year, Fahmee Bakery lost its main production facility in Scarborough after a two-alarm fire. As a result, Abdella was unable to keep the Weston Road location operating, so he subleased it to
