This undated photograph shows the in-mall entrance to a Zellers department store. SALTWIRE - SaltwireSYDNEY, N.S. — The long-rumoured return of Zellers department stores to Nova Scotia became reality on Wednesday when locations for Sydney and Dartmouth were formally announced.
The second Nova Scotia location will also be within The Bay at the Mic Mac Mall. Twenty-three other locations will also open this spring across Canada. Customers will be greeted with a thoughtful selection of design-led products across home decor, toys, baby, apparel and pets, housed within Zellers’ signature red and white that will guide customers along in their retail journey, the release states.Online, the news of the return of the former retail giant was met with happiness and further questions about the store setup, particularly about the Skillett restaurant known for its western sandwiches and french fries.
Zellers was founded in 1931 and by 1999 had grown into a chain of 350 stores. Hudson’s Bay Company HBC purchased Zellers in 1978, but by 2013 the chain was defunct with some former outlets hanging on as liquidation sites until 2020.
