Sabrina Vatcher, CEO of the YMCA of Cape Breton: "Throughout my life, I was always involved for the benefit of the community." IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY — Getting an opportunity to work in non-profit organizations has long been one of Sabrina Vatcher’s career goals.
“Looking back on it, from an early age, I was always trying to get involved with grassroots organizations. Even as a teenager, I was participating in the local youth employment program, being a member of my high school social committee.” “In 2007, I had that opportunity to move back,” said Vatcher, whose husband, David, is from Whitney Pier and works as a store manager for Winners in the Mayflower Mall. “The goal for me was always to get back to Cape Breton. And when Winners opened up, that was the golden opportunity.”

“We did hear from people right across Cape Breton Island what the big community needs are,” she said. “No surprise, right now people are looking for affordable housing, along with affordable childcare programming for youth. These came out as the big priorities.” “Whether it’s a youth membership, family membership, seniors or individual memberships, the program is open to everyone, and our goal is to never turn anyone away and meet them where they are,” she said.During her presentation to CBRM council, District 1 Coun.
