TRURO, N.S. — People around the Truro Tennis Club (TTC) describe Shelley Flemming as a fine tennis player, a good coach and a friend to all. When an ...
Recently at the TTC, the outstanding 2021 award was presented to Flemming byand members of the local club. Marijke Nel, a Tennis Nova Scotia technical director, commented.
“I often describe Shelley as the hub of our Truro tennis wheel,” Don Cameron, president of the TTC, said. “Shelley literally keeps the tennis community turning in a positive and healthy way. Shelley is deserving of this special award; she is one of the most distinguished tennis volunteers in all of Canada.
“The award is lovely, and I really appreciate the folks who made this happen. I appreciate the nomination on my behalf, and the supportive letters sent to Tennis Canada. But there are a couple of things I’d like everyone to know; the Truro Tennis Club is a volunteer-run organization, there are so many good people who offer their time and help out in one way or another.
“As a club, we were proud of that accomplishment,” Flemming said. “The award was actually for 2017 but the presentation took place in 2018. As a volunteer-run organization, many people helped to make it happen. Receiving the award affirmed the importance of all the work that people had put into the club. There was a nice feeling having this noticed and appreciated.”
