This legion connection led to a remarkable emotional connection between the pipe band and the Netherlands.
White noted that after the war, Canadian veterans began returning to the Netherlands at the invitation of the Dutch government. Large celebrations took place every five years. White shared that the Colchester Legion Pipes and Drums also played at smaller but equally touching memorials, naming as an example a monument for a single Canadian pilot whose plane was shot down near the village of Barneveld.
