Women-led tech startup combats child hunger in Atlantic Canada through school lunch programs
“There were thousands of children in Nova Scotia that depended on a lunch at school – sometimes that was their only meal during the day. With widespread school closures, they were no longer going to be able to access that meal,” says Food for Thought CEO Melissa MacMaster of Antigonish, N.S. “Our goal is to provide equitable and safe access to healthy food for all school-aged children.”

PHOTO CREDIT: Contributed Hoping to take her business to the next level, MacMaster enrolled in Grow Now, a virtual accelerator program targeted at female-led technology companies offered through the Centre for Women in Business, seated at Mount Saint Vincent University.
MacMaster learned many skills through workshops focused on finance, marketing, personal branding, required regulatory frameworks and more — all tailor-made for early-stage tech startups.
