However, the additional cameras wouldn’t be limited to the former town limits. Council is considering expanding the network to other West Hants communities.Jeff Redden, who owns and operates Home Hardware in Windsor, wrote to council in the fall requesting expanded coverage of Windsor’s video surveillance system. The Windsor Business Township Association also lent its voice in requesting action to help curb increasing crime.
As a result of the correspondence, council indicated there was a need to ensure existing cameras are working and were interested in exploring the potential expansion of the security camera system. “There are people out there that this is what they do for a living. They get up in the morning, get dressed, they go out the door and they go out and steal things. They’re good at it. We don’t always catch them. The times that we do, we’re very fortunate,” said Redden.
“The Town of Windsor would have budgeted and put a motion forward in 2019 for a substantial number of cameras which included Cole Drive, which is part of what drives this question,” said Ivey. In a Saltwire Network story from 2019, it was reported that there were 33 security cameras in use in Windsor, primarily located on town-owned facilities, including the Hants Aquatic Centre and the Walter B. Stephens Building . They were also located at major thoroughfares.
