Maybe this is the weekend the fate of the Ottawa Redblacks is decided.
That’s the combination the Redblacks, with a less-than-stellar 4-12 record, need for their playoff hopes to survive into the final week of the CFL regular season. Even then, the Redblacks would need another win and would, again, need the Roughriders to lose.
Under, the mathematics of playoff possibilities, we can bring out the old cliche: It’s now officially “do or die.” And, the urgency will come in a stadium that’s outside Ottawa’s city limits — not a bad thing at this point. While Ottawa has lost all eight of its home games, the Redblacks are 4-4 on the road.
The previous time these teams played, July 16 in Hamilton, the Ticats won 25-23 with the result in doubt until the last play of the game, when Lewis Ward’s 53-yard field goal attempt, into the wind, fell agonizingly short. At the time, both teams were 0-4. It’s a game that was there for the taking for the Redblacks. But, what’s done is done.Article content
