The operators of a new Whitby spa are soon to be the subject of a civil lawsuit.
Toronto personal injury lawyer Justin Linden says so far he has 28 people named as part of the suit against Groupe Nordik, which operates Thermea Spa Village. “We act for 28 people who have instructed us to bring a lawsuit. I anticipate there will be more. And the lawsuit is brought to recover damages arising from what happened to all these customers of the spa which include, for some, hearing loss, which continues to this day, serious ear infections, very serious skin infections which looks likes measles. Many of them have had to have medical attention, antibiotics, the infections have been resistant for many.
The first complaint lodged against the spa to Durham Public Health, a spokesperson confirmed to CTV Toronto, was made on Oct. 10.tap here to see other videos from our teamOn Oct. 20, Paquette said in a Facebook post that the spa “was advised by Durham Public Health that pseudomonas and staphylococcus bacteria had been detected in our saltwater pool Källa.”
Paquette says all of the spa pools were closed on Oct. 14 and an investigation “found the source of the problem: a malfunction of our UV lamps and bromine disinfectant.” CTV says Paquette wrote in an email to a guest that the spa will announce “a plan to make things right,” on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
