Public Health Sudbury and Districts reports two new COVID-19-related deaths, 93 new COVID-cases and there are five active COVID outbreaks at Health Sciences North
Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported Friday there were two new COVID-19 related deaths in the local health jurisdiction. One case categorized COVID-19 as the underlying cause of death. In the second case, COVID contributed to the death but was not the underlying case, said the health unit.
Both deaths occurred in Greater Sudbury. These are the first two deaths reported in October. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2020, the total number of COVID related deaths is 177.The health unit reported 100 new COVID cases on Tuesday .It brings the weekly total of new COVID cases to 254.Since the beginning of the pandemic in Sudbury there has been 19,653 cases reported. The majority of those cases — 19,322 — have been resolved.
In terms of demographics, the majority of local cases in the past two and a half years have been individuals in the 20 to 39 age group. The Sudbury health unit reported there are currently 16 COVID-19 outbreaks in local long-term care homes, retirement homes and other congregate settings. This includes two active outbreaks at the Sudbury Jail.
At Health Sciences North on Friday, there were 51 confirmed cases of COVID. This included three patients in the Intensive Care Unit. The hospital also reported it is also monitoring five active outbreaks as follows:Level 4 of the South tower, RLHC The health unit also reported that the local COVID-19 Risk Index is still at High, as it has been that way for more than a week.
