Eugenie Jacobsen says her love of the sea originated in childhood, growing up on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast.
She studied biological oceanology at the University of British Columbia before starting a master's in fisheries science and marine ecology in Newfoundland. Her current research investigates contaminants, such as mercury and pesticides, found in deep-sea fish in the northern Labrador Sea.
