Opinion: B.C. government is demanding companies doing value\u002Dadded production get access to timber
Eby blamed wildfires, the pine beetle and “frankly, mismanagement of our forest resource,” by the previous provincial government, driven from office six years ago.
Mass timber construction being the latest iteration of the value-added theme that successive B.C. governments have been pushing for generations. Hence Eby’s threat that if those two groups don’t find a way to get the needed trees to the right producers forthwith, the government will step in and do it for them.
Then along came the reporters with questions about the forest industry. Resource industries are so last century. “Sinclar also runs bioenergy systems that sustainably convert residual wood into energy, powering our communities while reducing carbon emissions,” according to the company website. This is the second time Sinclar has reduced operations already this year and Stewart indicated it might not be the end of it.
