Opinion: The province seems far from ready for everyone to switch to electric vehicles, assuming you can find one to buy
The New Democrats are budgeting for a $600-million, 27-per-cent increase in carbon tax revenue in the year ahead.
The New Democrats concede that “rural communities may have higher indirect carbon tax burdens — through higher shipping costs resulting in higher price of goods — and colder regions of the province may have higher tax costs for home heating.” Yes, it is. But the New Democrats are proud of presiding over the country-leading carbon tax, never mind that it was initially created by the B.C. Liberals and opposed by the NDP.
“You have to keep it,” Liberal finance critic Peter Milobar told Jas Johal on CKNW Tuesday. “The way the federal government has things structured right now, if we vacated the space, the federal government would come in and we’d be at the mercy of them giving us back the money.”Article content
