In an emailed statement Friday, Vancouver’s chief electoral officer Rosemary Hagiwara said voters should expect lineups, but they are encouraged to come out earlier Saturday morning to give themselves the best chance of shorter lineups. This is B.C.’s first local elections since the provincial government reduced the requirements for voting by mail. In earlier election voters needed to have been out of town on in-person voting days or unable to vote in person for other reasons such as a disability before being allowed a mail ballot. The legislative change in the Vancouver Charter made voting by mail available to all eligible Vancouver voters.
