“It’s the marginalized and stigmatized identity that’s going to take time to bring out into the open. We’ve done a lot for mental health, I think the needle has shifted around talking more openly about depression and anxiety, but with addiction, substance use, people are afraid.” “I ended up getting sober during my PhD and struggled with alcohol throughout. . . . was just so normalized. And I didn’t have any allies, I didn’t know anybody in recovery. I didn’t know that was even a thing,” she said.Article content
Burns said of the priorities for the program and beyond, on-campus housing is one she and the provincial government are interested in pursuing.
