. This has meant funding for private long-term care homes has been frozen since March 2020, while homes have faced some of the worst effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"So if you're a senior who is in need of long-term care, you have a 50 per cent chance of going to an underfunded, lower care level than if you're fortunate enough to go to a public manor." She said Atlantic Baptist has retained staff more than most because many are long-term “lifers.

Gormley added that she, along with other long-term care staff were also excluded from a recent government announcement of retention payments for health-care staff.
