The Oilers can’t be the Leafs. They need to put the Kings to sleep for good, now, before this series has a chance to go sideways on them.
The Oilers can also look at their own recent history for inspiration. They were the team that was down 3-2 and in big trouble last season and they went on to win the series in seven games at home.“The shoe was on the other foot last year heading into this game, so we understand the position they’re in,” added McDavid. “We came back to win the series, so by no means is this over. We have to bring our best and that’s what it’s going to take.
“We were in the opposite situation last year and fed off a big Game 6,” said Nurse. “The urgency at this time of year, when elimination is so close, goes either way. With two potential games left in the series, the urgency is going to be high and we have to be at a level that’s higher than theirs. Kailer Yamamoto remembers last spring’s comeback vividly and believes the Oilers will be able to use those memories to help them navigate the rough waters of a Game 6 on the road.
But surviving an early storm that everyone knows is coming will be the first major challenge of the evening.
