HUNTINGTON — Two Rivers Wildlife Park is taking a run at the most popular welcome to Cape Breton social media moment with the unveiling of a Cape Breton ...
This wall of colour now found at Two Rivers Wildlife Park was inspired by the former Cape Breton Tartan House. You can get a glimpse of it and pose for a picture in front of it beginning Friday during the park’s Winter Light Up Trail. Linda Hayes, events co-ordinator for the park, poses in front of her creation.
Hayes took on the project after the annual Fright Night fundraiser ended and can understand why the new owner of the tartan house decided to paint it over. The tartan wall’s intricate details required hours of taping alone, not to mention forcing her to go up and down a ladder to add each colour to each square within the design.
The annual Winter Light Up Trail at Two Rivers Wildlife Park opens on Friday. It’s the second most important fundraiser of the year for the park. GREG MCNEIL/CAPE BRETON POST - Greg McNeilThe tartan’s introduction comes during the most wonderful time of the year and one of the busiest times of the year for staff and volunteers at Two Rivers Wildlife Park.
“Even the gas from the machines and things like that is going up,” she said of cleanup costs. “It’s a really big pull on our finances and the winter is our slowest time of the year, so this money is important to get in to feed all the animals all year round.” “The kids, it is so exciting to see them run through and see them with their favourite cutout character or their favourite candy. They want their pictures taken next to them. I always compare it to a Christmas parade that you can take your time and walk through and see every detail.”
