Trudeau says CSIS intelligence assessment on threats against Chong 'never made it up to the political level'
revealed the existence of the intelligence assessment on Monday. Trudeau said on Wednesday that intelligence related to threats against Chong and his family never made it out of CSIS because the spy agency determined that it “wasn’t a significant enough concern.”
But Trudeau insisted that he was never made aware of those threats in 2021. “That information never made it up to the political level in my office, to me, or even to the minister of public safety at the time,” he insisted. Bill Blair was the minister of public safety at the time.of any threat against a MP or their family, regardless of the seriousness of the threat or whether it is credible or not.
In a statement after the meeting, the ambassador made it clear there would be consequences should Canada go ahead with the “threat” that he claims is unfounded. Catherine McKenna, who served as environment minister, said it is “appalling” that federal officials knew about Chong’s situation and decided not to tell him. McKenna, who has been the victim of online abuse and harassment, also said it is “not surprising.”Article content
