It’s hard to talk about Wellington Street without mentioning the reason it is currently closed to traffic: the protest convoy that paralyzed our city and traumatized the people who live in Centretown, the ByWard Market and Vanier one year ago. But here we are a year later, and the concrete barriers on Wellington serve as a strange memorial to the terrible events of the convoy. In the year that those barriers have been up, there has been one community event on the street: a highly successful street hockey game. But other than that, the only positive comments I have heard about a closed-off street have been from cyclists who are happy to have a safer place to ride.
